Shared Research Facilities Roadmap Project

Julie Auger has embarked on an ambitious strategic planning project to identify the campus need for investment in UCSF Shared Research Facilities (cores) over the next 5-10 years.

As with the IT Roadmap project this roadmap, vetted by the faculty, will be presented to the Budget & Investment Committee for funding prioritization. The project will identify strategic priorities across all areas including basic, translational and clinical research and will identify gaps in shared technology, expert personnel support initiatives, space needs, education programs and business management needs. UCSF Consultant Mary Beth Baker, who facilitated the IT Roadmap project, will assist with roadmap development.

In November, a forum was launched via UCSF's Open Proposal, to collect ideas from the campus community regarding the need for investment in UCSF's Shared Research Facilities. Participants were asked to submit suggestions based on what new or additional services, technologies, training, equipment, etc. would be needed to support their evolving research going forward. These ideas will help create a core research infrastructure in the future that is both responsive and supportive of the research needs of the campus. A great deal of excellent feedback was received during the initial suggestion period, and the survey has recently been re-opened to increase the level of input from the community.

The forum will close on February 28th.
